Protecting Residents From Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect

The decision to place a loved one in a nursing home is one of the most difficult a family has to make. There are over one and a half million elderly and dependent adults living in nursing care facilities across the country, and the families of each faced a series of considerations in choosing a facility, including location, cost and the family member’s medical condition. One possibility that no family should ever have to consider is nursing home neglect and abuse.

Unfortunately, it happens all too frequently. Nursing home neglect and abuse covers a wide range of violations, and can include injuries that result from negligent supervision; such as those suffered by unattended residents, improper use of medication, failure to provide adequate medical care, and emotional and verbal abuse. Some of the most common injuries are bed sores, broken bones, malnutrition, and dehydration.

The law firm of Schwartzapfel, Novick, Truhowsky & Marchus, P.C. processes claims concerning neglect and abuse in any type of elder or nursing care setting This includes nursing homes, rehabilitation and assisted living programs and home health care.
